The premium option in restorative dentistry is implant dentistry, which we offer at Paul Jang Dentistry. Dental implants are the closest in function and appearance to natural teeth with a surgically-placed root that is permanently added to the jaw bone. While not everyone is a candidate for dental implants, advancements in implant dentistry have made this a viable option for more people needing dental restorations.

Did you know that over 35 million people live with no natural teeth in one or both jaws? But more and more dental patients are opting for dental implants as a means of tooth replacement. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry reports that 3 million people currently have dental implants – a number that is rapidly growing by about 500,000 per year. Modern titanium implants were first developed in the 1950s, but archeologists have determined that ancient Egyptians and Mayans were the first cultures to implant artificial teeth.

All-on-4 Dental Implants

We offer a full arch treatment using 4 implants called All-on-4. Using this technique, the entire upper or lower teeth can be replaced using 4 precisely placed implants. If you are missing many or all of your teeth on the upper or lower jaw, then All-on-4 may be right for you. Compared to dentures, All-on-4 has many benefits including:

  • Bone preservation. While wearing dentures results in gradual bone loss, dental implants preserve the bone in your jaw.
  • More Comfortable: Dentures are supported by your gums, but teeth on dental implants are supported by your jaw bone so they provide more comfort.
  • Eating Benefits: Dentures limit what you can eat, but dental implants allow you to eat almost anything you want and taste everything as it is meant to be tasted.
  • Improved Aesthetics: Dentures often make your face look gaunt due to the bone loss. Dental implants help maintain your original bone structures so your face will look healthy.
  • No Messy Adhesives: With dentures, you have to worry about messy, expensive adhesives. Dental implants permanently fix your teeth to your bone, so messy adhesives to worry about.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dental implants right for me?
A dental implant can be used to replace one or more missing teeth, or to replace an unhealthy tooth you want removed. Implants are wonderful for who that do not want a removable prosthetic and are in reasonably good health. Bone density and oral health are factors in determining whether dental implants are a good fit. A dental exam and consultation at our office are the first steps to finding out if you are a good candidate for implants.

What should I expect if my dentist and I decide dental implants are right for me?
The dental implant process is done over several months to ensure a permanent, functional new tooth. After your initial exam and preparation for your implant surgery, you will have the titanium posts inserted into your jaw bone. You will be sedated and the surgery usually takes less than two hours. The gums are sutured and will heal over six to nine months before you will come in to have your permanent crown bonded to your implant. Between the surgery and permanent placement, provisional or temporary restorations are available to give you a functional set of teeth while your implant heals.

What type of post-treatment care will I require?
After your surgery, you will have some tenderness and soreness as the gums heal. Our dental team will give you post-surgical instructions and options to relieve any discomfort. Once your implants heal and your new crowns are in place, you will care for your implants and natural teeth like normal and come in for routine cleanings and checkups at least twice a year.
